The David Awards recognise the unsung heroes in home and small businesses throughout New Zealand, whose tenacity, courage and ingenuity place them firmly at the forefront of entrepreneurship in this country.
In the same way that David, an ordinary, unassuming young man, conquered the giant Goliath using only his shrewdness and a simple slingshot, these entrepreneurial Davids often punch well above their weight. The aim of The David Awards is to acknowledge the “Davids” who contribute so much to this country, their communities, their families and the Kiwi business landscape, and who are seldom recognised for it.
The Solo Meo Award
This Award celebrates a solo business owner who runs their business single-handedly. It recognises all-round business excellence, from concept through to execution. Entrants in this category must be sole owners of their business, and cannot employ anyone else in a dedicated, ongoing capacity for over 10 hours a week (e.g. virtual assistant, sales rep) but can employ others to undertake specific tasks for the business from time to time (e.g. an accountant, web designer, copywriter or product demonstrators). Distributor-type relationships are excluded provided they work from independent premises.
Result – FINALIST!
We have been delighted to have 17 entries for the first year of this category. To create and run a business on your own requires passion and commitment. Well done Lisa you have achieved a lot for a new business. A key milestone was realising that you needed to change your approach to create a sustainable business. Isolating a key pain point for businesses around running their websites and social media showed a keen insight into your target market. It was also good to see that you have kept a balance in your life around other interests and family. The judges felt you were a worthy finalist in this category and look forward to future entries to watch your progress.
